‘Reckless’ test drive in Everett results in 4 injured

March 17, 2021

On a Tuesday afternoon in early February 2021, a test drive resulted in four injuries in Everett, Washington. The driver was reported “driving recklessly” while test driving a Hyundai Elantra. The driver, accompanied by a dealership employee, sped onto north SE Everett Mall Way and rear-ended a pickup truck near 3rd Ave SE. The truck flew across the street, through a utility pole, and ended up on its side in a parking lot. The pole fell onto an unoccupied vehicle, damaging it.

The driver of the Hyundai Elantra and dealership employee were rushed to Everett Hospital with “potentially life-threatening injuries” while the truck driver and his daughter were treated at the scene.

According to Miller Stern Lawyers, LLC, there are over 6 million car accidents each year in the United States. Motor vehicle injuries occur every 11 seconds, and a person is killed every 12 minutes from these injuries.

Speeding is one of the top causes of car crashes in the United States. If the driver was reported “driving recklessly” or “speeding,” what was their reason for driving so fast during a test drive? One must also wonder if the dealership employee warned the driver to slow down and the impact this will have on the company and the families of those involved.

Because a car dealership is involved, the quick response of their insurer is certain. Oftentimes, adjusters will make offers at a very early stage of an auto injury claim, sometimes even hours after a car accident. They purposely make these offers before the full extent of a person’s injuries is known. The insurance company’s goal is to give the injured party as little compensation as possible. Situations like these require a lawyer.
